Apply. Complete the application form and submit it with an initial payment of $475 (refundable if not admitted). Most Antioch School programs have open enrollment with probationary admission, so that success in the program proves that you are able to succeed in the program.
Be Commended. The Antioch School is not a traditional campus or distance education program in which you can essentially enroll at your own initiative as an isolated individual. A key component of the application process is commendation by a leader of an Antioch School partner. If you have been called to ministry leadership, we will try to help you connect with a partner, but you will not be admitted to a program until commended by a leader of that partner.
Initiate Your Portfolio System. Begin your personal life and ministry development process with your local mentor, and obtain your Motivated Abilities Pattern (MAP), which will be at the heart of your entire program.
Proceed with C-BTE. Proceed with the church-based theological education (C-BTE) program of your Antioch School partner to develop ministry competencies.
Use Your Portfolio. Assessment in the Antioch School is done by portfolio assessment. Certified leaders serve a faculty role by coaching students in building portfolios. Other Antioch School faculty provide additional assessment to validate the demonstration of competencies in portfolios.
Graduate. Upon demonstration of all the competencies for a program, you will receive the degree or certificate.
Continue to Develop. Academic degrees provide cultural currency related to particular accomplishments, but they are not the same as church and ministry credentials, or being a lifelong learner. If you learn anything in the program, we hope you acquire an enhanced habit of the lifelong pursuit of wisdom.

Where do I start if I want to offer degree programs to others?

Become Certified. Each Antioch School partner must have at least one leader who has been certified. In most cases, the training necessary for initial certification can be done in three or four days. It includes orientation to the Antioch School, basic training in BILD resources and pedagogy, paradigmatic perspective on theological education, and preparation for coaching students in building portfolios. Partner Certification Training is offered in Ames, Iowa and at other locations throughout the year. The week is valued at $1500, but it may be waived for those intending to become Antioch School partners. Ongoing training to maintain certification will be offered each year.
Recruit Students. Once certified, you may commend students to be admitted to the program. No one will be admitted to your program without your commendation.
Launch Program. The rest is built into the use of the BILD nonformal training system: personal and ministry development plan, Leadership Series modules, major projects, teaching practicum experiences, and other customized training related to competencies that you include.
Build Portfolios. Local mentors and certified leaders coach students in building portfolios. Other Antioch School faculty will provide quality assurance through review of the evidence of competencies demonstrated in the church-based theological education programs.
